Sport Football

Which is a real sport soccer or american football?
I like playing soccer but some americans say it’s a girly sport. They like football. But i find it nothing but crap. So i was wondering which one actually a better sport. Let me know what you think
Having played and coached both, I consider them excellent games that test an athlete’s skills and abilities. Usually, when we criticize a sport, it is because we are not fully able to appreciate what is required to play it on a high level.

A Beautiful Game $46.51 FIFA, the world governing body of association football, declared The Future is Feminine in a 1995 press release. Since then, football has been claimed as the fastest growing participation sport for women globally. An estimated twenty million women play the game around the world, and that figure is on the rise. However, the history of women’s participation goes back to at least 1895 and in our enthusiasm for the present, the memory of that longer history can be overlooked or forgotten. A Beautiful Game, supported by a two-year FIFA/ CIES Jo o Havelange Research Scholarship, examines contemporary women s football internationally, with case studies from England, the United States, China and Australia. In each case study, Jean Williams considers the evolution of the women s game against a backdrop of issues, such as media representation, access to facilities, lack of resources, coaching, sponsorship, talent identification, training and professionalisation. T he author examines contentious questions, such as why women are absent from the highest levels of professional football, combining source material from archives, oral history and artefacts. A Beautiful Game analyses the status and image of the women s game from the late nineteenth century to the shifting social values of the present. |

A Football Odyssey: For the Fans by the Fans $25.7 A Football Odyssey represents a new slant on football writing. It addresses the game through the eyes of ordinary supporters. If you want to glory in the whims and fancies of 20-year-old millionaires – or the sanitised accounts of the rise and rise of clubs funded by oil-billionaires or leveraged buy outs -then this isn”t for you. However, if you want to understand why the Jambos break their fan”s hearts – or what it means to downsize your Uniteds – or how this game can shape and mirror lives- then you”re in the right bit of the sport section. A book that is truly of the fans, for the fans and, most importantly, by the fans. Chapters on Glasgow Celtic by Jim O”Brien. on Hereford United by Jools Page, on Birmingham City by Paul Bowes, on Heart of Midlothian by David Thomson, on Southend United by Helen Mitchell, on Raith Rovers by Ann Brand, on Bristol Rovers by Eileen Sutton, on Motherwell by Hugh Paton, and on Sheffield Wednesday by Sean Fenelon. |

A Whole New Game: Off the Field Changes in Baseball, 1946-1960 $63.47 Bismarck once said that God looked after drunkards, children and the U.S. of A. Some say that baseball should be added to the list. It must have been divine intervention that led the sport through a series of transformative challenges from the end of World War II to the games first expansion in 1961. During this period baseball was forced to make a number of painful choices. From 1949 to 1954, attendance dropped more than 30 percent, as once loyal fans turned to other activities, started going to see more football, and began watching television. Also, the sport had to wrestle with racial integration, franchise shifts and unionization while trying to keep a firm hold on the minds and emotions of the public. This work chronicles how baseball, with imagination and some foresight, survived postwar challenges. Some of the solutions came about intelligently, some clumsily, but by 1960 baseball was a stronger, healthier and better balanced institution than ever before. |

America’s Game $17.95 It’s difficult to imagine today-when the Super Bowl has virtually become a national holiday and the National Football League is the country’s dominant sports entity-but pro football was once a ramshackle afterthought on the margins of the American sports landscape. Yet in the span of a single generation in postwar America, the game charted an extraordinary rise in popularity, becoming a smartly managed, keenly marketed sports entertainment colossus whose action is ideally suited to television and whose sensibilities perfectly fit the modern age. Pro football’s ascent is an epic American story, and America’s Game does it full justice. Beginning with the World War II years, when the NFL was fighting for its very existence, Michael MacCambridge traces the game’s grand transformation, with particular attention paid to six key franchises-the Rams, Browns, Colts, Cowboys, Chiefs, and Raiders-and how their fortunes reflected the larger growth of the game itself. Along the way we meet the sport’s legendary architects, men such as Pete Rozelle, George Papa Bear Halas, Bert Bell, Tex Schramm, and Lamar Hunt, as well as a wide range of its memorable characters-including Johnny Unitas, Paul Brown, Vince Lombardi, Jim Brown, Al Davis, Joe Namath, Bill Walsh, and Deion Sanders. In the process we witness the rivalries, the games themselves, and the passion that have made professional football the nation’s signature sport. MacCambridge continues the story through the turbulent 1980s and 1990s, when labor disputes and off-field scandals shook the game to its core, and up to the sport’s present-day preeminence under Paul Tagliabue. The unique portrait of the modern game’s inner workings andrelentless competitiveness sheds light on contemporary stars such as Ray Lewis and Peyton Manning, as well as on the men whose leadership skills are scrutinized and second-guessed by much of the country, celebrated coaches such as Bill Parcells, Dick Vermeil, Tony Dungy, and Brian Billic |

Arena Football $57.61 Arena Football is a variety of Gridiron football. It is a proprietary game played indoors on a smaller field than American or Canadian outdoor football, resulting in a faster and higher-scoring game. The sport was invented in 1981, and patented in 1987, by James F. Foster, Jr., a former executive of the National Football League and the United States Football League. Though not the only variant of indoor football, it is the most widely known, and the one on which most other forms of modern indoor football are at least partially based. Two leagues have played under the official arena football rules: the Arena Football League, which played 22 seasons from 1987 through 2009 and arenafootball2, which was founded in 2000. Arena Football 1, is the league”s new name, confederation of former AFL and af2 teams that plans to begin play in 2010, will also presumably follow the official arena football rulebook. |
